A Communion of Brothers

Years ago my brother Jim gave me a bottle of Courvosier VSOP as a graduation present from college. I finished that bottle several months later while drifting a raft on the Yukon river. I placed a note in the empty vessel, beginning: "To the finder of this bottle, it speaks of the love of one brother for another." Tonight as I parted with Jim he presented me with another bottle of VSOP. We stood in traffic, drinking out of the trunk of his car, as brothers are wont to do.

He has been an inspiration and supporting force for me throughout my life. Now, as I complete this leg of the Take 50 journey, he's there yet again to help me take stock of this moment.
